December: Priorat in the science, media and… Yuletide!

First of all, we’d like to welcome all new members of our grapevine adopter club who joined us this January. Welcome and happy new year!

We have to tell you that, at this time of the year, the vines have no foliage at all, so we’d like to send you their pictures as soon as fresh leaves shoot in the spring 🙂

As you already know, December is known for its calm and peace in the vineyards: last leaves flake away, first shoots of fresh green grass stealthily come through, and it’s just cold. In December, 2013, it didn’t freeze much, though; the temperatures treated the vineyards tenderly, without any sharp leaps. Everything’s ready for pruning.

Last December was rather memorable for highlighting our region – our winery included – in the research and media world…

A new economic study was presented by professor Miquel Àngel Bové Sans, of our Universitat Rovira i Virgili: “Innovation in traditional industries: wine-making (r)evolution in Priorat as success case”, where he shows how wine-making innovation turned the region’s economy round to overcome the seemingly terminal economic decline. You can download it here.

We’d like to suggest seeing a few recent videos about Priorat: a promo by the Consell Regulador of the DOQ Priorat, a curious discussion about food tourism in the region, and a report about the wine tour guide course we mentioned last month.

The icing on the year’s cake was the video by TV3 about wine-making in terracotta jars in Priorat, where you can see our Gratallops potter Lluís Riera, Sergi Romero of our winery Celler Devinssi, and Sara Pérez of Mas Martinet.

2013 wound up with a very positive bottom line: great harvest, market expansion, more visibility and new perspectives. We wish you a happy 2014!
