The calçotada time has come to Priorat! So has the time for typical winter tasks to carry out at the vineyards. Would you like to learn how to prune a vine and eat calçots in a rural setting of extraordinary scenic beauty?
From Gratallops (DOQ Priorat), we’d like you to come over to enjoy an enriching and gastronomically exciting activity: vine pruning master class followed by a calçotada barbecue.
- Date: 2 February, 2020 (Sunday) from 11 am to 3 pm
- Location: Gratallops, DOQ Priorat
Thus you’re going to learn how to prune grapevines in a nice company! Yo won’t have to prune the whole vineyard, rather, we’re going to show you the techniques so that you can have a wonderdul time in touch with the nature. The master class is followed up by a calçotada barbecue paired with our wine.
- 11.00 – 11.30 – encounter at Celler Devinssi
- 11.30 – 12.00 – guided walk to the vineyard
- 12.00 – 13.00 – pruning master class
- 13.00 – 14.30 – outdoor calçotada
- 14.30 – 15.00 – return to the village
(Please note: In case of windy weather we’ll have the calçotada at the winery)

Review of Celler Devinssi
My two friends and I visited Celler Devinssi from Barcelona and met with Jordi in Gratallops. He made us feel very welcome and drove us out to see the vineyard, surrounded by beautiful views of the hilly Priorat landscape. Once at the vineyard, he spent some time teaching us how to prune the vines and how the pruning method would affect the way the vine grows later in the season. We also learned about how these very steep vineyards are managed, and how the slope makes impossible any kind of mechanical process – so everything is done manually here. My friends and I learned a lot that day and enjoyed a great time together. Priorat is worth a visit even in the wintertime. The people we met were all very friendly, the landscape just as majestic and its nice to enjoy a bit of work in the vineyard before relaxing with a glass of wine and calcotada with friends. Highly recommend!
