23 Jul The solar eclipse of 12 August 2026 from the vineyards of Gratallops
On Wednesday 12 August 2026, the sky will offer us an exceptional phenomenon: a solar eclipse visible from Priorat. At Celler Devinssi, we would like to mark the occasion by watching it from a setting closely connected to the rhythms of nature, the vineyard landscape of Gratallops.
We have prepared a small-group activity combining a walk to the vineyard, a wine tasting in Priorat and safe observation of the eclipse. Guests who would prefer to enjoy the occasion at a more relaxed pace may also stay for one or two nights in the ROCCA rooms, located in the same building as the winery.
The wine tasting and the accommodation are separate options and can be booked independently.
1. Vineyard wine tasting during the solar eclipse
Wine, landscape and astronomy at sunset
The activity will begin between 6.30 pm and 7.00 pm at the Celler Devinssi shop in the centre of Gratallops. This arrival period will give us time to welcome the group, make the necessary preparations and briefly explain how the evening will unfold.
At 7.00 pm, we will set off on a gentle walk to the vineyard where we normally hold our sunset tastings. During the approximately thirty-minute walk, we will introduce the vineyard landscape of Gratallops and some of the distinctive features of viticulture in Priorat.
Between 7.30 pm and 9.00 pm, we will hold a guided tasting of four Celler Devinssi wines. The tasting will coincide with the eclipse and will include time to observe the phenomenon using the appropriate protective equipment.
This is not intended to be a technical astronomy session. It is a cultural, informative and contemplative experience. We will explore the relationship between vineyards, celestial bodies and agricultural calendars, how rural communities have traditionally observed the sky, and the place of the Sun, the Moon and the natural cycles within wine culture.
After the observation and wine tasting, we will walk back to Gratallops. We expect to arrive in the village at approximately 9.30 pm.
A friendly small-group experience
To preserve a calm atmosphere and make both the tasting and the eclipse observation easier to manage, the activity will be limited to between 4 and 12 participants. The price is €25 per person.
The booking includes:
- a guided tasting of four wines;
- wine glasses, water and breadsticks;
- the walk to the vineyard;
- explanations about the landscape, viticulture and the cultural relationship between wine and the stars;
- certified eclipse glasses, which participants may keep after the activity.
What to bring
The walk is gentle, but it takes place in a rural environment. We recommend wearing comfortable closed shoes, light and breathable clothing, a cap or hat, sun protection and bringing water.
Insect repellent and a small torch or head torch may also be useful for the return walk, particularly if the ambient light becomes lower than expected.
Watching the eclipse safely
Never look directly at the Sun without suitable protection. We will provide certified eclipse glasses and explain how to use them correctly.
Guests wishing to bring cameras, telescopes or other observation equipment must use suitable solar filters. Each participant is responsible for using their own equipment safely. If the equipment is particularly heavy or bulky, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance so that we can consider the practical arrangements.
What happens if the weather prevents us from seeing the eclipse?
Naturally, our ability to observe the phenomenon will depend on the condition of the sky. If it is cloudy, we cannot guarantee that the eclipse will be visible.
However, provided the general conditions allow us to walk to the vineyard and hold the activity there safely, the wine tasting and the wine tourism experience will still take place. The landscape, the wines and the discussion of the relationship between vineyards and the stars will remain part of the programme.
2. Staying at ROCCA during the eclipse
One or two nights in the centre of Gratallops
Guests who would like to experience the eclipse without rushing may also stay in the ROCCA rooms, located in the centre of Gratallops and in the same building as Celler Devinssi.
Accommodation is not a compulsory part of the wine tasting. It can be booked independently, whether or not you take part in the eclipse activity.
ROCCA is a small holiday accommodation with only two rooms. Availability over the eclipse dates is therefore necessarily very limited.
One-night option
A one-night stay allows you to arrive in Gratallops on the day of the activity and rest in the village after the eclipse.

Two-night option
A two-night stay allows you to arrive the day before, settle in without rushing and have more time to discover Gratallops and the surrounding area.
It also means that you will not need to make a long journey immediately after the eclipse and can enjoy this special evening in Priorat at a more relaxed pace.

The rooms
CEP is a comfortable and practical room with a kitchen and private bathroom. It has two single beds and can also accommodate a third guest.
RAÏM is a larger and brighter room, also equipped with a kitchen and private bathroom. It is particularly suitable for guests who appreciate having some additional space during their stay.
ROCCA is registered as holiday accommodation and does not provide hotel services, breakfast or a permanently staffed reception.
