This March our winery has appeared in the prestigious Spanish magazine “Vinos y Restaurantes”, where they talk about our history, our DOQ Priorat wines and also the tastings we do at the winery.
Celler Devinssi
Artisan wines
Celler Devinssi is a small artisan winery located in Gratallops (Tarragona), where they make quality wines protected and guaranteed by the D.O.Q. Priorat that are the result of the terroir: rugged slate slopes and terraces with the Serra del Montsant on the horizon.
Its founder, Josep Roca, acquired the first plots of land to plant vineyards in Gratallops 25 years ago, although he has been dedicated to the world of wine (as a marketer and producer) since the 1980s.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first vintage produced by Celler Devinssi: 2003 IL·LIA and the 15th anniversary of the first production of the winery’s top wine: 2008 Rocapoll.
More than half of Celler Devinssi’s production is exported to the US, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, and Singapore, among others.
The wines
This Gratallops winery, which works on its vines and wines in the environment-friendly fashion, currently produces around 16,000 bottles a year. It produces 4 wines protected by the D.O.Q Piorat: Rocapoll, IL·LIA and red and white Mas de les Valls.
Rocapoll: It is a Village Wine produced from the Carignan (Samsó) variety picked from very old vines. Production per vintage: 600 bottles. A true unique piece. A wine in which the Carignan is fully expressed, with a surprising complexity of aromas and flavours.
IL·LIA: Very limited production, it is a blend of Red Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate it is very balanced, well structured, fleshy, oily and broad.
Mas de les Valls red: It is the result of a blend of Red Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of fresh and macerated cherries, black fruit preserves, vanilla and soft touches of wood that support the aromatic complexity stand out. Subtle balsamic tones. Fresh and lively on the palate, correct acidity with a certain oiliness, good length and permanence.
Mas de les Valls white: It is an artisan Village Wine. Production per vintage: 1,200 bottles. Knowing that 95% of the Priorat grapes are red varieties, it is understood that this reference is a truly unique piece. Made with Pedro Ximénez and White Grenache, it has a pale golden colour, transparent. Its nose recalls the typical aromas of the Priorat undergrowth (thyme, fennel, bay leaf, etc.) to which are added baked apples, tropical fruits, aromatic herbs and linden blossom. On the palate it is quite warm, with balanced acidity and good persistence.
Wine tourism
Celler Devinssi is among the most active wineries in the area in terms of wine tourism. All visits include visits to the vineyard in Gratallops so that visitors learn about the peculiarities of the D.O.Q. Priorat heroic viticulture. For the same purposes, the winery offers seasonal workshops: pruning, harvesting, specialised tastings, etc.
It should be noted that more than half of the annual visitors to Celler Devinssi come from outside Spain: USA, Sweden, Belgium, United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Netherlands, etc. Since 2019 Celler Devinssi is a member of the Priorat Enoturisme association, adding the effort to promote the winery’s product and service and the Priorat destination.
